Description

The support of AmeriCorps and the creation of the Bonner Leaders Program have made it possible to nearly double in size of the Bonner model since 1997. The Bonner Leader Program has grown to a network of 47 colleges and universities in 25 states. Like the Bonner Scholars Program, the Bonner Leaders Program is a campus-based student service program that partners with more than 350 faith-based and secular community-based organizations to address education, human needs, education, public safety, and the environment.
Currently, more than 1,000 Bonner Leaders annually develop their civic and leadership skills, knowledge, and values through their roles as leaders of team-based service projects and through participation in a developmentally-targeted, experiential learning curriculum. The curriculum includes training modules on the Bonner Program's six Common Commitments (civic engagement, community building, social justice, diversity, spiritual exploration, and international perspective) and 24 personal, leadership, and professional skills that we seek to develop in our members.

The majority of the members serve in the following activities: tutoring, educational enrichment, food distribution, mentoring, and community organization, capacity building, and volunteer recruitment, training, and support. All service activities are tracked using the Bonner Web-Based Reporting System (BWBRS).
