2006-07 Plans

Meredith Brown, WV Wesleyan College
 

  1. Monster Bash (?)
    • Trick or Treat on campus -costume contest
    • fall games and crafts for area elementary students
  2. Modify our “Christmas on campus” program due to time conflicts; provide community children w/ a safe and healthy environment to Trick-or- Treat. Gives children an opportunity to visit campus, meet new people and possibly see mentors/volunteers from other area programs.
  3. Resources: PR to local schools, newspaper, and radio 
    • contact w/ campus orgs.
    • reserve rooms/locations on campus
    • donation requests from faculty/staff and community
    • volunteers to serve as tour guides
    • volunteers to run/monitor each station
    • elect a planning committee w/ specific tasks and deadlines
  4. By next June: Event will be complete and planning committee for the following year will be chosen. Will have met once to critque/reflect and make changes for next year.
    • by mid/early Sept: organize planning committee and send registration forms to schools (committee will meet @ least weekly)
    • by mid/early Sept: Contact campus orgs and get requests for rooms and activities (so no duplicates exist)
    • by early Oct.: have set locations and activities for each participating org. 
  5. plan a specific event date
    • plan timelines for each member of the committee
    • begin to create a binder to pass down from coordinator to coordinator each year
    • create registration form for children

Michelle Hasler, Depauw University

1. Bonner families to help class of Bonners inside our school get to know each other
2. We have 80 Bonners and tend to only interact with our class. Different classes can bring in different experiences and perspectives. We have a “Bonner Buddy” system that can be modified.
3. Have families started in our class of 2010 so that modifications can be made for the class of 2011.

  • assign families before orientation.
  • plan “family meetings” before Sept. to help the freshman transition.
  • have a program created where everyone has entered the program with a “family”- 4 years
  • start gathering into to make appropriate family assignments (hometown, major).
  • discuss ideas for “family meetings”


Monica Greene, Oberlin College


1. Ohio Bonner Schools community days and Earlham, IN (1x or 2x per semester)

  • build a larger sense of community among Bonners
  • meet other Bonners, learn about difference
  • have fun!

2. Contact OH Bonner schools, see what activities they do, see if anything coincides and/or seems interesting

  • Spring or WT (?)
  • connect thru blogs
  • contact (see #3)
  • find an area of interest (issues)
