Congress Action Teams

2006-07 Plans

Becci Clippinger, Pfeiffer University
The Green Team of P.U.
1) to create an environmental group/recyclers out of our existing Bonners and Peer Chaplins. Together we would work to recycle cardboard, aluminum, glass, newspapers, and plastics.
2) It would clean up our campus, reduce the amount of waste we produce, and aid in the preservation of our environment for our years to come.
3) Impliment the Green Team and be recycling weekly. At least two enviro weeks by this time, email newsletters to students and staff participation.
4) 8/06- have orientations to “enviro week”
8/06- get bins for each material outside of every building
12/06- program up and running
4/06- 2nd enviro week and speakers- Nick Algae
5) –talk to recycling companies and try to get one to adopt Pfeiffer and the Misenheimer village to their pick up area
-research and find free or cheap bins
-inform and educate Pfeiffer’s community on our goals and what we are trying to do

Liz Yoder, Earlham College
1) Making Earlham more eco-friendly. Accessing where we are as a campus and where we can proceed (green buildings that are being built, raising awareness to reduce resource use, making recycling and composting more of a priority.
2) Resources are finites, we need to reduce and reuse and be an example of sustainable living to the community. We will need support from professors (especially those involved in the environmental programs dept.), support from the Bonner to take leadership and especially from the whole student body to institute change.
3) By next June: I hope to have all houses reduce their use and composting and recycling. I hope to bring the discussion of the environmental impact of the new buildings up to the students and begin the conversation of reducing this impact.
4) talk to Mic and Charlie (2 profs. Interested in environmental issues) and hold a panel where they inform the students where we are in our greening process. (beginning of fall) Talk to our school president and hear his motivations. (early fall)
5) Meet with profs. And president.
-hold mtg (open to all students) where they are informed about what they can do.
-hold panel where students can hear about new building processes and give their input
-survey students in houses to see if they are composting/recycling, why or why not
