Jessica Lucas, Ferrum College
1) Create a community center by renovating an old school house
2) –the old school house was used by many of the older
generations and brings back a lot of memories, but it is now
used for storage
-the senior citizens do not really have somewhere to get together
and meet.
-there are few after school programs and almost nowhere for
youth to hang out
-a museum/memorial would be nice to keep culture and tradition
alive
-overall every age group could utilize this building and gain
from it
Resources: Franklin County Town Council
Ferrum College President
PTA of local schools
Head Start
St. James Center‡ models we could use
Need:
-help/classes on grant writing
-local stores for renovation supplies
-local finding grants and support
3) I want the Bonner Program at Ferrum to be in control of
the school and beginning renovations by June 2007
4) –get the college faculty onboard and permission to
do the renovations college owns the school by Oct. 2006
- have at least 3 community partners on board by Dec. 2006
-have a grant written by March 2007
-being renovations by June 2007
5) –the very first thing that needs to be done is obtain
permission from the college to do this.
1) write a proposal including:
a) a need!‡ lack of meeting space
b) interviews from the community showing they want/need this
c) local head start showing how after school benefits students
d) simply an interview from every age group showing a need
submit this proposal to the President and Dean of College
2) Do a follow up session with the President and Dean
a) Create a slide show of old pictures from the past and new
pictures of what it is now.
b) get a spokesperson from Head Start, local PTA, St. James
Center, Franklin County Town Council, and Bonner to answer
questions and show support
c) take plans and timeline to show we are serious
*All of this must be done and approval must be given before
any further steps can be takenNathan Johnson, College of the

1) Service Project
2) This will be broken up into three different service projects.
-people we will be dealing with: turkey hill;, Doulos/shelterwood,
and Cam.
a)Turkey Hill: children’s camp, we will help with whatever
needs to be done.
b)Dolous/Shelterwood: this is a place for trouble teens, want
to show them a love that they have never seen before.
c) C.A.M.: serving people with needs.
-resources: can ask any one if they have the skills that would
be needed to get the jobs done.
a) at out school we have just about every skill that would
be needed (mastered)
3) I was thinking that it would be nice to do this in April.
So by next June I would like to make sure all things or as
many as possible to go right next year. I want to get feedback
from the people that have done this before.
4) 2-3 Goals:
-make sure I know what the service projects want done.
-make sure that I have students excited about this project
-the worked sights see a light of love from our students
-what we do is different.
5) 2-3 Action: -Make sure students are aware of these different
projects. (posters)
-make those contacts with the projects

1) Upshur County Habitat
2) I want to strengthen our existing program by utilizing
campus and community volunteers, churches, community leaders,
and local governmental representatives. By tapping these resources,
hopefully we can overcome our current need for financial and
leadership resources.
3) By next June I would like to have at least one house completely
built, by raising funds and providing labor.
4) By the end of Sept. I would like to have set up a plan
with the local habitat leaders. By the end of February I would
like to have raised the necessary funds. I would like to have
all work completed by the end of April.
5) I can go back and research habitat as well as grant writing.
I can get in contact with the local habitat to get a feel
for the situation. I can contact very efficient habitats to
get some ideas.
