Summer Internship FAQ's
Who can be a Summer Intern?
Any Bonner can be a summer intern with the Foundation. The
position is open to all Bonners who have a proposed work topic
that relates to the Bonner mission.
What does an Intern do?
Summer Interns work at the Bonner Foundation, dedicating the
majority of their time to a project, which they, themselves,
have proposed. Interns in the past have devoted time to researching
and improving the logistics of Congress, keeping a line of
communication through the summer between Congress members
and the Foundation, researching to create youth initiatives,
planning and implementing Congress training sessions, editing
and updating the Congress Handbook and other logistics of
the Bonner Program.
What will I gain from the
Internship?
You will gain leadership skills, networking, et cetera. You
will work primarily in an office setting, gaining a wide-array
of organizational and office-management skills. You will work
independently on your proposed project, gaining skills in
self-management/self-discipline. You will become familiar
with the northeast, having ready access to the greater New
York-Philadelphia-DC region. You will be immersed in the culture
of non-profit, on the organizing, planning and managing level.
You will learn the behind-the-scenes techniques that make
programs like Bonner a success.
When should I send my proposal?
You should submit your proposal along with a résumé
to the Foundation early in the spring semester. This will
give the Foundation ample time to review your proposal and
respond, providing you and the Foundation both with time enough
for early planning.
What happens if my proposal
is accepted?
Once your proposal is accepted, it is important that you continue
communicating with the Foundation through the remainder of
the semester to ensure that all arrangements are made prior
to your arriving in Princeton.
When do Interns begin/end
work?
Summer Interns are encouraged to begin their work directly
proceeding the end of the school year. This enables Interns
to play a role in the planning and implementation of the SLI/All-Bonner
Service Event. Interns work with the Foundation for seven
weeks in the summer, a total of 280 hours. Bonner Leaders
have the option of working five weeks for 200 hours. Interns
work daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., with an hour provided
for lunch.
Where do Interns work?
Summer Interns work primarily at the Bonner Foundation, located
in Princeton, NJ. There are opportunities throughout the summer
for work-related travel as well, depending on your course
of work.
Where do Interns live?
Summer Interns of the Bonner Foundation live on the Princeton
University Campus, in summer co-ed dorms. This living arrangement
includes kitchen, bathroom, single room and access to laundry
facilities.
Why does the Foundation have Interns
in the summer?
Summer Interns provide a student voice at the Foundation during
the summer. Students are diligent and responsible workers,
self-motivated and truly interested in the long-lasting success
of the Bonner Program. Interns work alongside the President
and other Foundation Staff, providing a diverse body of organizers,
ensuring that the connection is maintained between the Bonner
nucleus and other organelles.
