Publicity
Publicity is important to create a name
and identity for your Bonner Program. It is impossible to
predict why people will decide to get involved and volunteer;
be prepared every day.
Dispenser:
Create a poster that will hold some brochures and interest
cards and put them in the most used parts of campus so that
whenever someone has the urge to sign up, they will have the
opportunity to do so.
Brochure:
Include a brief description of your Bonner Program and quotes
from enthusiastic Bonners and satisfied community partners.
Also include contact information and information about applications.
You may also want to create a supplemental brochure of community
partners with descriptions of each project.
Bulletin:
Creating a weekly or bi-weekly bulletin will keep volunteers
informed. It should include a quick listing of announcements
and opportunities.
T-shirts/Souvenirs:
T-shirts of other souvenirs are great promotional materials
that will bring greater unity ot the group, recognition in
the community and on campus. T-shirts can be a gift for completing
a term of work or a certain number of hours.
Campus-Wide Event:
Creating a campus wide service event will help fuel the trend
toward community service. It can be as simple as holding an
event where everyone gets the chance to volunteer in the community
for a few hours on one day.
Local Newspaper:
Find a reporter who can write a story about a group project
you plan, profile a stellar volunteer or the organization
at large. Also encourage photo opportunities of Bonners at
their placement. This exposure will help recognition of your
Bonner Program in the community.
You can also write your own press releases for events to encourage
better coverage.
