AmeriCorps Campus Staff

Background

The Bonner Foundation received a grant from The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) that provides close to 1,000 AmeriCorps Education Awards annually. Not only does AmeriCorps allow your students to engage in a national network with over 50,000 members, but it provides additional support to students already participating in the Bonner Program. AmeriCorps members share the Bonner Program's values and interest for engagement in intensive community service to meet critical community needs in areas such as education, public safety, health, environment, etc. Upon completion of service, members are eligible to receive their AmeriCorps award.

How AmeriCorps fits into your overall Bonner Program

Due to our shared values and commitment to our communities across the nation, the Bonner Program encourages the integration of AmeriCorps service into the Bonner Program Model. Campuses participating in the Bonner Program have each designed innovative models that use federal work-study funds, AmeriCorps Education Awards, and institutional support to create scholarship packages for students involved in community service. There are a variety of ways to combine these sources of financial support, and each campus does so differently. At some campuses, all Bonner Leaders and/or Bonner Scholars are also enrolled in Bonner AmeriCorps, while at others only a few students participate in Bonner AmeriCorps.

Please note that there may be additional expectations for Bonner Scholars and Bonner Leaders set by the Bonner Foundation and/or the individual campus program. Equally, there may be guidelines that AmeriCorps members must follow that do not hold true for students in the Bonner Program who not enrolled in AmeriCorps.
