Guidelines
If your college, anti-hunger initiative,
and/or congregation (or coalition of congregations) is interested
in seeking support from the Bonner Foundation, whether for
the first time or for renewal, only grant applications that
follow the format of these guidelines will be considered for
funding. Please note that the grant application's narrative
should be a maximum of four pages, and it should be drafted
collaboratively by all participating parties.

Please fill out the cover page form
and attach it to the front of your proposal (pdf
version, Word version)
II. Narrative
A. Background on Hunger Program:
History, Mission, Locality.
Please describe the existing (or proposed)
food program, addressing each of the following:
- A description of the hunger program's history and mission.
- The population that your agency serves including: (a)
gender makeup, (c) age range, and (d) special needs of
the clients.
- Overview of your service area’s economic conditions.
- A brief description of key staff, including qualifications
relevant to the food program and, if possible, qualifications
relevant to the participating Bonner Scholars Program
and/or congregation(s).
B. Background on Sponsoring Congregation(s),
if applicable:
Please describe the sponsoring congregation,
addressing each of the following:
- A brief description of its history and mission.
- A description of the congregation(s), including: (a)
denomination, (b) number of members, and (c) a brief description
of the congregations’ outreach programs.
- Relationship of the sponsoring congregation(s) with
the hunger program, including:
- whether the hunger program is a project of the congregation
or a separate, 501(c) 3 non-profit organization;
- amount of direct financial support to the food program
by the congregation(s) ;
- number of members of the congregation volunteering
with the food program; and,
- whether or not the congregation(s) provide physical
space and/or other in kind support to the food program
and/or the Bonner Scholars Program.
- Relationship of the sponsoring congregation(s) with
the Bonner Scholars Program.
C. Background on the Bonner Scholar
Program
Please describe the relationship between the anti-hunger
initiative and the participating Bonner Scholar Program,
addressing the following:
- Provide information regarding the current or potential
participation and
integration of the Bonner Scholars Program with the Hunger
Program.
- Identify a student(s) who currently serves or may possibly
serve as a liaison
between the community initiative and the community-based
serve program (BSP).
- The anti-hunger initiative and the BSP shall work collaboratively
in creating a job description for the liaison(s). This
job description should include the primary responsibilities
of the liaison(s).
i.e. overall assistance and leadership within the community
initiative; recruitment; training; and monitoring of other
student involvement.
- Provide a brief description of how the connection between
the Hunger Program and
the Bonner Scholars Program will benefit the campus-wide
service initiative.
D. Funding Request
Please provide the following:
- A monetary request and detailed budget for the proposed
program. Please note that Foundation grants will range
between $2,500 and $10,000 for the purpose of supplementing
a program’s budget for the purchase of food.
- A description of: (a) why your agency is requesting
this grant, (b) what outcomes you hope to achieve, and
(c) how the funds will be spent if a grant is made.
- A brief description of how the grant will help strengthen
and facilitate an ongoing and meaningful relationship
between all parties involved: the Bonner Scholars Program,
the anti-hunger initiative, the congregation(s), and most
importantly, the people/community being served.
III. Appendix
In addition to the proposal narrative,
please provide the following:
- Please submit your institution’s financial statements
for the most recent fiscal year and your current fiscal
year’s operating budget.
- List the names, addresses and contact person for three
of your current funding sources
- List the members of your Board of Directors/governing
body, with their professional affiliations.
- A copy of the most recent IRS letter indicating a tax
exempt status.
- Please submit any printed materials describing your
congregation and its outreach
programs.
IV. Survey
Please complete and return the Crisis
Ministry Grantee Survey [PDF
version, Word version] along
with your proposal. Do not hesitate to elaborate in your
narrative on any facts covered in the survey.
Proposals will be accepted by the Foundation
on or before January 15.
