Background:
The Bonner Connection is designed to represent the Bonner
Foundation's commitment to serving the communities where there
are both Bonner Scholar Programs and faith-based anti-hunger
initiatives. In recognition of this commitment, the Foundation
is seeking to provide priority grants for the purchase of
food to the religious, community-based hunger relief programs
that demonstrate an ongoing and meaningful partnership with
a neighboring Bonner Scholars Program.
Funding Procedures:
In funding anti-hunger initiatives that have a connection
with a Bonner Scholars Program, several factors guide the
Foundation's decision-making process. Generally preference
is given to programs that:
- Are faith-based ministries; are sponsored by a congregation
or a coalition of congregations; demonstrate a collaborative
effort with participating Bonner Scholars in the fight against
hunger and other related issues in the community.
- Demonstrate that the Foundation's funding will generate
meaningful and innovative involvement on the part of the
members of the congregation, the community, and the Bonner
Scholars Program.
- Provide a nutritious and balanced diet for the hungry
in a way that promotes and fosters their self-reliance,
dignity and respect.
- Provide an opportunity for the Bonner Scholars to actively
participate in roles of leadership, service, and responsibility
within the hunger relief initiative and the community.
Use of Funds:
The Bonner Foundation offers grants for the purchase of food
to expand an anti-hunger initiative's ability to meet the
demands of the hungry living within its community. Foundation
grants will not be made towards general operating expenses,
endowments, start-up programs or capital campaigns.
Grant Size and Duration:
Grants range between $ 2,000 and $ 10,000 depending on the
program and the needs of the community. Grants are awarded
for a period of one year, with the possibility for renewal
in subsequent years.
Proposal Deadlines:
Proposals are accepted by the Foundation on or before January
15. Proposals should be sent to Elaine Wheeler, Corella &
Bertram F. Bonner Foundation, 10 Mercer Street, Princeton,
NJ 08540. If you have any questions, please contact Elaine
Wheeler at (609) 924-6663.
