Three perspectives on Micah 6:8, from a biblical scholar (on social justice), a developmental psychologist (on faith development and love), and a religious educator (on faithful walking and learning).

National Council of Churches in Christ "Micah 6" website <http://www.micah6.org/micah6>. This website describes the NCCC's Micah 6 initiative with a variety of congregations, which was launched in 1999 by the Economic Justice and Domestic Hunger Program of the National Council of Churches. Excellent resources for congregations are available: Introducing Micah 6, and Living with Micah 6, as well as t-shirts, lapel pins, and devotional resources.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love (Fortress Press, 1963). ISBN 0-8006-1441-0. A great collection of MLK sermons, which combine his sharp edge for social justice and his introspective struggles in faith and commitment

Henri Nouwen, Donald McNeill, Douglas Morrison, Compassion (Doubleday, 1983). ISBN 0-385-18957-5. Nouwen has written volumes of insightful and personal reflections on contemplation, brokenness, and social action. In this book, three priests reflect on the radical nature of God who "took the form of a servant," and on our radical call to compassion, servanthood, prayer, and activism.

Parker Palmer, Let Your Life Speak (Jossey-Bass, 2000). ISBN 0-7879-4735-0. Palmer, a sociologist, educator, and activist, reflects on "vocation" and "leading from within," sharing much of his personal journey and inviting us to explore our own intersections of self and service, to "find the place where our deep gladness meets the world's deep need" (a Frederick Buechner quote).

The Other Side, a bimonthly magazine. Website: <http://www.theotherside.org>. The Other Side describes itself as a ministry "committed to the intimate intertwining of personal spirituality and social transformation."

Sojourners, a bimonthly magazine. Website: <http://www.sojourners@sojo.net>. Sojourners describes itself as a ministry for "spiritual renewal and social justice, …addressing issues of faith, politics and culture from a biblical perspective."

Joyce Hollyday, Then Shall Your Light Rise: Spiritual Formation and Social Witness (Upper Room Books, 1997). ISBN 0-8358-0816-5. A peace activist and former editor of Sojourners, Joyce Hollyday gives us eleven brief biblical reflections to help us see the convergence of spiritual formation, service, and social justice.

A wide-ranging collection of ideas, stories, questions for reflection, and inter-faith activities to help with spiritual practices that support a commitment to justice and social change.
