Stepping Up and Taking Action: Leaving a Legacy

2007 Bonner Student Congress Fall Meeting

Lynchburg College •Lynchburg, VA

Tentative Agenda

  • The purpose of this meeting is for Bonner Congress Reps to develop their knowledge, skills, and strategies as student leaders, focusing on particular themes. Activities and programming includes: all-Congress sessions, workshops, student-led leadership action teams, social events and more.
  • The overarching themes to be explored are common to all Congress Reps (and Bonners) as characteristics of thoughtful leaders. These include:
    • Exercising leadership to promote civic engagement and social change
    • Respecting diversity in a multicultural, multinational World
    • Being involved in the political process and civic life
    • Taking care of natural resources and the environment
  • Some IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR REPS:
    • Bring your sleeping bag. Everyone is staying with Lynchburg hosts or in common space.
    • Dress is casual.
    • Bring a coat. It may be cold.
    • If you are flying in to Roanoke or Lynchburg, a shuttle will be available. Look for an email during the week of October 15th with details.

  • Check in and get Congress Program, folder, and map.
  • Sign up for the Leadership Action Team you are interested in.
  • Get housing assignment
  • Sign up for service or Bonner games for Saturday afternoon.

Morning Program featuring Keynote Speaker Linda Biehl

Linda Biehl is the co-founder and director of the Amy Biehl Foundation in the U.S. and the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in South Africa. Linda’s relationship to South Africa and the genesis of these Foundations is grounded in the life and death of her daughter Amy.

Elective choices will be led by student leaders as well as faculty and partners from Lynchburg College. Topics will include:

  • Follow up discussion with Linda Biehl

  • Building capacity of non-profits
  • Taking action in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
