Bonner Senior Intern Position

Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Internship is a position available to a member of the senior Bonner class who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Bonner Program and an interest in programming.

This position should serve as the Bonner’s main service site. It is suggested that s/he dedicate all ten hours to the internship, which is counted as direct service. The Senior Intern can take on a high level of responsibility and work with a degree of autonomy. Typically, they work to support relationships with community partners, designing or coordinating training & enrichment, and supporting the implementation of administrative details (like BWBRS). They also take responsibility for projects such as event planning or creating publications. Experienced directors and coordinators suggest that the position be tailored to the intern’s individual strengths and interests.

The internship should serve as an educational experience for the Bonner, preparing him/her for life after college, and it should assist the director/coordinator by providing extra programmatic support. Ultimately, the internship should give the student a chance to develop the abilities to manage him or herself while receiving appropriate guidance from the director/coordinator.

Senior Interns can use the large Civic Engagement Curriculum for modules that are ready to implement, as well as other reflection resources online.
Academic Connections: senior interns can help to make academic connections, including by making an inventory of courses, designing courses, pulling in faculty and more. See this Curricular Guide for ideas.
Community Partnerships and Placements: senior interns can truly support the recruitment, management and communication with partners. Interns can help assemble a Binder for Partners, using the materials available in the Community Partnership resources here. They can also make site visits, phone calls, and help with evaluations.
