The Achievement First Teacher-in-Residence program offers aspiring educators a unique opportunity to receive high-quality teacher training and learn how to teach while gradually taking on more teaching responsibility. Achievement First is a growing network of non-profit, high-performing, college-preparatory, K to 12 public charter schools in Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island. The mission of Achievement First is to deliver on the promise of equal educational opportunity for all of America's children. We believe that all children, regardless of race or economic status, can succeed if they have access to a great education. The one-year teaching residency, in partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay GSE), is designed specifically for recent college graduates and career changers who are looking for an innovative pathway into the teaching profession. The Achievement First-Relay GSE teaching residency is a proud member of the AmeriCorps National Service Network.
Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) Teaching Fellows program prepares passionate college graduates from nearly all academic majors and faith traditions to serve children and families as teachers in under-resourced Catholic schools and to grow as leaders while earning a cost-free Masters from Notre Dame. During the academic years, ACE teachers live in small communities of 4-8 members at one of our 35 placement sites and together share the many challenges and rewards of beginning teaching. ACE teachers also spend two summers at Notre Dame, engaging in intensive Master of Education coursework and experiencing the joy of the ACE community. By forming a new generation of committed, faith-filled Catholic school teachers, ACE aspires to sustain and strengthen Catholic education.
Urban Teachers is a four-year alternative teacher certification program that works to close the achievement gap in schools by improving teacher quality and preparing a pipeline of high-performing career teachers that stay. Urban Teachers believes that qualified, highly effective teachers who stay in the classroom can empower students through learning. Urban Teachers recruits diverse, results-oriented individuals and helps them refine and polish their skills to become strong classroom managers by offering a master's from Johns Hopkins School of Education, mentoring and coaching support, and school placement during the crucial first years of teaching.
Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) is an urban teacher training program that includes a Masters in Urban Education and a full-year internship in an urban school paired with a highly effective mentor. As a response to the gospel mandate to love our neighbors as ourselves, MTR will provide students in our partner neighborhoods with the same, or better, quality of education as any child in Memphis receives by recruiting, training and supporting effective teachers within a Christian context. The MTR residency is open to all majors. During the residency year, MTR provides a stipend, housing and full tuition for the master's degree. Following the residency year, MTR graduates commit to teaching for three consecutive years in a Memphis high need school.
