Created by, with, and for college presidents, the consortium brings together a diverse group of campus leaders from a broad range of higher education institutions across the country. Members share the perspective that it is the responsibility of higher education to equip students with the critical civic skills to participate effectively in a democracy, engage in civil discourse, and express themselves responsibly.
The consortium empowers higher education leaders with essential tools to champion three Civic Commitments across curriculum and campus life. Presidents engage in peer learning, exchange ideas and best practices, and collaborate with students and faculty.
Through College Presidents for Civic Preparedness, a unique consortium designed by the presidents and convened by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars, participating presidents are dedicated to preparing the next generation of well-informed, productively engaged and committed citizens; defending free expression, civil discourse and critical inquiry as essential civic norms; and increasing thoughtful engagement and better understanding by students for the effective functioning of our democracy. The consortium was first announced with 15 members in August 2023.
A total of 13 Bonner Schools have taken the initiative to be a part of this consortium and 6 of those schools are founders. To view each presidents profile on this initiative please click the hyper linked institute.
