Four Bonners Selected as the 2023 Bonner Foundation National Summer Interns

Each summer, the Bonner Foundation welcomes motivated, passionate, and talented Bonner summer interns from our network of 75+ Bonner programs. During this ten-week internship, these young leaders bring their Bonner Program experience and share it by developing new resources and strategies for the national network. This year, the Bonner Foundation offers internship opportunities that focus on Bonner curriculum development, resource development for strategic communications, and researching models for career pathways and connections.

We are delighted to welcome these four exceptional 2023 Bonner summer interns:

Rashel Bernal-Reyes ‘23

Rutgers University - New Brunswick (New Brunswick, NJ)

Public Health Major with a Health Education/Advocacy Certificate

Rashel Bernal Reyes is a senior at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, majoring in Public Health with a certificate in Health Education and Advocacy. As a lifelong resident of New Brunswick, NJ, Rashel is passionate about community engagement and health education. Andy Huerta ‘24

Rider University (Lawrence Township, NJ)

Health Sciences Major

Andy Huerta is a Bonner Community Scholar at Rider University, where he is currently a member of the Class of 2024. As a New Jersey native, he has been actively involved in the Bonner Program since his first year and has served as a mentor and tutor for at-risk youth between the ages of 6 and 18 at HomeFront (Family Preservation Center) and other sites such as the Arm in Arm, a food pantry in the greater Trenton area…

 

Chloe Vereen ‘25

Berry College (Mount Berry, GA)

Communications Major

Chloe Vereen is a sophomore at Berry College majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. She ia also minoring in Women's and Gender Studies and Creative Writing. Chloe serves at the Rome-Floyd ECO Center, an organization dedicated to providing natural resource education to the residents and visitors of Rome and Floyd County, where she helps with communications and public education. In her free time, Chloe enjoys reading and writing, and hopes to write her own television show someday…...

 

Bryan Wood ‘24

The College of New Jersey (Ewing Township, NJ)

Biology - Secondary Education Major

Bryan Wood, a New Jersey local, is a rising senior at the College of New Jersey, studying Secondary Education - Biology. With a lifelong love of performing, Bryan's first experience with non-profit work began when he served as a fundraising coordinator for Phillipsburg Area Summer Youth Theatre. As a Bonner Scholar, Bryan leads fundraising efforts for his service site, Urban Promise Trenton…..


Though their responsibilities shift in focus from year to year, each cohort of interns is immersed in learning to plan and implement national conferences, engage in resource design and development, and build capacity of national Bonner Network initiatives. The interns will work in close collaboration with several Bonner Foundation staff members across the different projects including supporting this year’s 2023 Summer Leadership Institute (May 31- June 3, 2023). In addition, they will have opportunities for mentorship, networking, and personal and professional development.

We are delighted to work alongside a talented group of young leaders and change-makers, and we know that their work will have a long-lasting impact on the Bonner network.
