Stephen Omukoko Okoth, Oberlin '25, Selected as Earth Prize Mentor of the Year.

Stephen Omukoko Okoth, Oberlin Bonner Scholar Class of 2025, was selected as one of three Earth Prize Mentors of the Year.

The Earth Prize is a $200,000 environmental sustainability competition for teenage students everywhere. The Earth Prize recognizes the students and schools with the best solutions to accelerate positive change towards environmental sustainability, as judged by The Earth Prize Adjudicating Panel.

The Earth Prize Mentors are selected university students passionate about sustainability and entrepreneurship, who provide guidance to the Participants. Following the successful first edition of the competition and a fantastic experience with our Mentors, The Earth Prize 2023 will now recognize three Mentors with The Earth Prize Mentor of the Year award. The three best Mentors, as voted by the competition’s Participants, will receive a $5,000 prize each.

Stephen Omukoko Okoth is a student of Economics, Business, and Politics at Oberlin College. He is passionate about youth involvement in leadership as well as the sustainable use of our world’s limited resources. This passion motivated him to apply to serve as a mentor for the participants of The Earth Prize competition. These young participants aged between 13 and 19 have not only challenged him but have also confirmed his long-held belief that young people have way more to offer than they have been allowed to, especially when given the right platform to contribute to positive change.

Stephen is convinced that while an ecological crisis may be glaring in our eyes, we still have a chance to avert the worst outcomes by inviting more people aboard in the efforts to attain sustainability and carbon neutrality. He appreciates The Earth Foundation for leading the way and invites all to join this noble cause to secure our planet for posterity.
