Bonner National Partners

To learn more about the partnerships, watch this promotional video developed by Camila Guayasamin in July 2022.

The Bonner Foundation has mutually beneficial partnerships with over 50 national organizations. The growing consortium of partnerships span a diverse array of issue areas such as anti-hunger and poverty, public health, education, environment, public policy, and more. These partnerships provide opportunities such as internships, direct service, international experiences, summer placements, post-graduate fellowships, employment, and more to Bonner students, staff, and alumni in the Bonner Network. In return, these organizations gain access to a talented pool of predominantly low-income, first-generation students who are civically-minded, high-achieving and contribute significantly to their campuses' and communities' culture of service and higher learning.

anti-hunger and poverty

  • Launched in 2001, The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) is one of five ventures of DC Central Kitchen. CKP empowers students to create sustainable solutions to food insecurity, food waste, and poverty in their communities. On over 60 university and high school campuses across the country, student leaders transform unused, high-nutrient food from dining halls, grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers’ markets into meals that are delivered to local agencies serving those in need, all while building meaningful leadership skills. Our student leaders go “Beyond the Meal” by implementing community building initiatives that advance our mission of breaking systemic barriers that cause food insecurity, poverty, and food waste.

  • The Congressional Hunger Center works to make issues of domestic and international hunger a priority to policymakers in the U.S. government, and to raise a new generation of leaders to fight against hunger and poverty.

Through the Zero Hunger Initiative, Bonners will be able to deepen their learning around issues of food security, hunger and poverty and be exposed to ways they can become more effective advocates for promoting policies that address food security and reduce hunger in their campus communities.

The Congressional Hunger Center operates a summer internship program in Washington, DC and a post-graduate fellowship programs, the Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program, that trains, inspires, and sustains leaders. Fellows gain field experience fighting hunger and poverty through placements in community based organizations across the country, and policy experience through placements in Washington, D.C. The program bridges community-based efforts and national public policy, and fellows develop as effective leaders in the movement to end hunger and poverty.

  • The mission of Serve901 is to partner college student volunteers with Memphis service organizations to facilitate interpersonal development and a renewed perspective of civic advocacy, interdependence, and respect for diversity through service-learning trips. An opportunity for a break from college—away from the grind of tests, papers, all nighters, and the stress of figuring out life—can tempt many students to plan carefree trips focused entirely on fun. But you’re different. You’re looking for something more than the Panama City Beach trip. You’re looking to give back and contribute to something that matters, and maybe have some fun in the process. We believe that one of the best decisions you can make in your college years is to invest your spring, summer, or winter break in a time of service, learning, and building community.

  • Solutions Journalism investigates, and explains, in a critical and clear-eyed way, how people try to solve widely solved problems. While journalists usually define news as “what’s gone wrong,” solutions journalism tries to expand that definition: Responses to problems are also newsworthy. By adding rigorous coverage of solutions, journalists can tell the whole story. Solutions journalism complements and strengthens coverage of problems. Done well, solutions stories provide valuable insights that help communities with the difficult work of tackling problems like homelessness or climate change, skyrocketing housing prices or low voter turnout. We also know from research that solutions stories can change the tone of public discourse, making it less divisive and more constructive. By revealing what has worked, such stories have led to meaningful change.Their mission is to transform journalism so that all people have access to news that helps them envision and build a more equitable and sustainable world.

  • Are you trying to figure out what’s next after college? Want to do some good in the world but not sure exactly how or where? Maybe you should consider this new opportunity for young adults to gain a variety of professional skills while living and discerning in an intentional Christian community. First Presbyterian Church of Portland, Oregon, and Menucha Retreat & Conference Center (located just 30 minutes from Portland in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area) supports an intentional faith community called the Presbyterian Community of Practice (although you only have to be Christian, not necessarily Presbyterian, to apply). For a year, four young adults (ages 21-29) will live at Menucha and will serve ministries in both rural and urban settings. Specific ministries and work will depend upon the gifts, skills and interests of participants. They will be designed by participants in consultation with staff of Menucha and First Presbyterian Church. Each participant receives room & board at Menucha, and a monthly stipend. If you are Presbyterian, you qualify for student loan repayment assistance from the PC(USA)’s Season of Service program.
