We are excited to be partnering with Tilting Futures to bring Bonner students a new global summer opportunity: Take Action Lab Accelerator: Human Rights in Cape Town, South Africa.
About the Program
Take Action Lab Accelerator: Human Rights connects Bonner students to a diverse, global cohort of peers for a nine-week summer semester program. During this program, students will live, learn and work in Cape Town, South Africa while interning with local human rights organizations. After two weeks of virtual preparation, students will spend seven weeks in-country at their internships. Additionally, students live in shared housing with peers, participate in cultural immersion activities, and work with a local Tilting Futures’ team to connect what they learn to how they want to create positive change.
Take Action Lab Accelerator can fulfill the requirements for Bonner summer internships or Summer of Service.
About Admissions
Applications are currently open for this summer. The deadline to apply is January 24, 2025.
To apply, students will need to create an account on Tilting Futures’ application portal. Completing the application takes 2 hours on average, and students can save their progress along the way.
A step-by-step guide to the application process and an FAQ for students is available on the Take Action Lab Accelerator Program page.
About Program Costs
Accessibility was the guiding principle for program development, while providing the excellence, comprehensiveness, and impact that are the foundation of all Tilting Futures and Bonner programs.
Tuition cost for Bonner students is $8,000 per student ($10,500 for non-Bonner students). For Bonner Scholars, $4,500 of this can come from the summer funds available to them; however the decision to use these funds will be made at each school level and at the individual student level.
Tuition provides students with two weeks of virtual preparation through the Take Action Lab’s Foundations Course, seven weeks of housing in Cape Town’s Observatory neighborhood, covers planned in-country cultural immersion activities, supports pick-up and drop-off at Cape Town’s airport for student arrival in-country and departure, and provides individual living stipends for food, transportation, and more.
Flights to and from your home country, passports, and other travel fees are not included in tuition. See the next section on financial aid to learn about ways to bridge this gap.
Although this may seem daunting at first to some, there are creative ways for you and your students to bridge this gap. The remaining tuition costs can be met through multiple avenues, including other pockets of institutional resources, travel grants, and student fundraising as groups or individuals. Tilting Futures will be offering workshops and other materials for you and your students to provide ideas, opportunities to brainstorm together, and to create plans based on your individual institutions’ and students’ needs.
About Financial Aid
In addition to the above mentioned $4,500 tuition payment potentially available for Bonner Scholars, Tilting Futures also offers financial aid. Financial aid decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. There is also additional funding (up to $2,300) in flight costs that qualifying students can access through Tilting Futures financial aid. We acknowledge that this program will be more financially accessible for Bonner Scholars than Bonner Leaders and encourage all programs to reach out to Titling Futures to discuss other funding resources.
The deadline to apply is January 24, 2025.
