Job Opening: Berry College Assistant Director of Events and Communications

The Assistant Director of Events and Communication for the Office of Diversity and Belonging at Berry College is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing events that promote diversity, belonging, and community engagement. This role includes managing communication strategies, mentoring student workers, and overseeing the Good Neighbor Center. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Chief Diversity and Belonging Officer and the rest of the ODB professional staff to ensure that all initiatives advance Berry College's mission of practicing a Good Neighbor Culture. This position may require evening and weekend work to support events and programs.

Key Responsibilities

Event Planning and Coordination:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute events that support diversity, belonging, and community engagement, including signature events such as Solidarity Week, Be Love Week, and the Beloved Community Lecture series.

  • Collaborate with campus partners, student organizations, and external vendors to ensure successful event logistics.

  • Develop and manage event budgets, timelines, and resource allocations.

  • Oversee event promotion, including creating marketing materials and outreach campaigns.

  • Ensure events are accessible and inclusive to all members of the Berry College community and the Rome-Floyd community.

Communication Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the Office of Diversity and Belonging's initiatives and events.

  • Create and manage content for the office's digital platforms, including websites, social media, and newsletters.

  • Draft press releases, reports, and other communication materials as needed.

  • Ensure consistent and inclusive messaging across all office communications.

  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication efforts, making adjustments as needed.

Student Worker Management and Mentorship:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise student workers, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.

  • Assign tasks and projects to student workers, ensuring they gain valuable experience and contribute meaningfully to the office's mission.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment for student workers.

Oversight of the Good Neighbor Center:

  • Manage the operations of the Good Neighbor Center, ensuring it serves as a welcoming and supportive space for the community.

  • Help develop and implement programs and services offered through the Good Neighbor Center.

  • Book and manage the center's schedule, coordinating space usage with campus and community partners.

  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to enhance the center's offerings and impact.

Collaboration and Outreach:

  • Foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support the office's programs and initiatives.

  • Represent the Office of Diversity and Belonging at campus events, meetings, and other forums as needed.

  • Work with Berry College's marketing and communications team to amplify the reach of the office's events and messages.

Program Support:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs that support the mission of the Office of Diversity and Belonging.

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for office initiatives.

  • Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of office programs and events.
