The Emory & Henry University Bonner Scholars Program provides loan reduction grants, summer earnings, and tuition stipends to 80 students. In exchange for their scholarships, these students perform a minimum of 6-8 hours of community service each week. In addition to community service, students are expected to participate in reflection groups, whole group meetings, and enrichment events/trips. The program strives to provide advising and educational support to students while developing their analytical and leadership skills, enabling them to work more effectively within their communities. The Bonner Coordinator will be responsible for helping to manage the day to day operations of the program by working very closely with Bonner Scholars, community partners, and the Bonner Foundation.
Service Project Management
Assist Scholars in identifying meaningful service placements that match their interests with community needs.
Coordinate logistics of service placements, such as transportation.
Develop and implement a mechanism for assessing the value and success of placements.
Maintain comprehensive records of scholar placements.
Work with student leaders and community partners to develop and implement accountability systems
Program Development and Administration
Assist Scholars in designing an ongoing training and leadership development program designed in the context of rural communities in Appalachia.
Participate in and, as necessary, help plan for all meetings of the Bonner Scholars
Manage the Bonner Leadership Team.
Explain and enforce program guidelines.
Help plan and attend all Bonner trips and experiences
Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new Bonner Scholars including attending open house events.
Develop marketing materials and maintain website and social media accounts associated with the Bonner Scholar Program.
Liaison with Bonner Foundation
Attend Bonner conferences and assist in their coordination, as necessary.
Document student activities for reports to the Bonner Foundation.
Maintain regular contact with the Bonner Foundation and other Bonner Schools.
