Capital University to Launch a Bonner Program

Starting in the fall, 15 new freshmen at Capital University each year will receive four-year scholarships based not on athletic talent or ACT scores but on a commitment to serving the community around its Bexley campus.

The scholarships stem from a new partnership announced by Capital President Beth Paul on Thursday as part of her inauguration week. The Corella & Bertram F. Bonner Foundation has been supporting first-generation and low-income college students in exchange for community service since 1990. The scholarship money takes the place of what a student might otherwise have to earn in a job, freeing the student for volunteer work that often only wealthy students can afford to do.
