Job Opening: Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Stetson University

Stetson University in DeLand, FL (about 30 minutes from Orlando) seeks a Director of Diversity and Inclusion to join their team that includes the Center for Community Engagement, Office of Religious & Spiritual Life, and Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Campus Life and works in concert with the university’s Executive Officer for Diversity, Collaboration, and Inclusion, and colleagues in Human Resources and the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence to maximize opportunities for collaboration and outcomes around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Director is responsible for developing and enhancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives focused on the support and belonging of undergraduate students from historically marginalized or underrepresented backgrounds or identities at Stetson University. In alignment with the University values, the Director oversees the development, coordination, and administration of programs and activities that primarily serve multicultural undergraduate students at Stetson.  Additionally, the director collaborates closely with the Directors of Community Engagement and Religious and Spiritual Life for integrated programming and outcomes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the staff and provides leadership to the entire staff team, including the Assistant Director of WISE and Student Success, AmeriCorps Members, Graduate Assistants, and student employees.

  • Maximize the usage and oversees operations of the Cross Cultural Center (Tri-C), including: staffing, marketing, budget, facility, and assessment of learning outcomes.

  • Collaborates with Religious and Spiritual Life, Student Development and Campus Vibrancy, Residential Living & Learning, and WORLD to increase the sense of belonging for students from historically marginalized backgrounds and identities.

  • Coordinates and assists student, staff, and faculty efforts in planning and implementing holistic educational, intercultural, social, and leadership development programs that increase awareness, foster learning, and incorporates reflection in order to cultivate an inclusive community and prepare students for life in a global world.

  • Collects and interprets institutional data from a lens of inclusion to increase awareness and knowledge of the current issues facing Stetson students with diverse identities (e.g. racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual) in partnership with the Executive Officer for Diversity, Collaboration, and Inclusion.

  • Develops, enhances, and maintains intentional outreach and enrichment programs and initiatives (e.g. WISE) for specific student populations designed to increase engagement and retention.

  • Provides leadership to and advance student peer-based diversity and inclusion work including, Multicultural Student Council, student organizations (e.g. Kaleidescope, Black Student Union), and National PanHellenic Council organizations (in partnership with Fraternity and Sorority Involvement staff).

  • Leads and empowers students to plan and facilitate critical and transformational dialogue, cultural events, diversity programs, workshops, and community-building programs, with a focus on development of long-term and annual programs which become embedded as campus traditions (e.g. Only Love, Coming Out Day, Social Justice Lecture, Multicultural Alumni Networking event)

  • Networks and partners with other offices and faculty to increase diverse student participation in high impact learning and support initiatives.

  • Provides foundational training for students and campus constituents (e.g. Safe Zone 101, Diversity 101) to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion for students, in partnership with Human Resources and the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence.

  • Co-chair and administratively leads the Bias Education Support Team (BEST), which responds from an educational lens to reports of bias to and by students.

  • Supports and serves as a resource for existing University admissions and orientation programs designed to create a welcoming environment for all students.

  • Performs other intentional duties that contribute to the University mission as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Master’s degree required in a relevant field.

  • At least five years’ experience planning and implementing programs and activities in job-related areas.

  • Experience designing and administering diversity education programming and curricula.

Salary Grade: 8
