Job Opening:  Associate Director of Student Engagement and the Bonner Scholars Program at University of Richmond

The University of Richmond is now accepting applications for a new Associate Director of Student Engagement and the Bonner Scholars Program in the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement! Through their primary role of directing the Bonner Scholars Program and select student-led initiatives, the ideal candidate will be a dynamic and experienced educator who is able to cultivate student leadership, co-create high-impact educational programming, design civic engagement curricula that align with the CCE’s learning outcomes and values, conduct comprehensive student advising, develop strategic cross-campus partnerships, and foster a culture of collaboration among student and staff colleagues.

SUMMARY: 

Develops and oversees the Bonner Scholars Program and select cross-campus civic engagement initiatives, creating a range of high-impact educational experiences and innovative student leadership opportunities. Includes guiding a team of staff supporting the Bonner Scholars programming, ensuring the delivery of high-quality reflective content, offering and supporting comprehensive student advising, developing cross-campus partnerships, implementing democratically-engaged assessment strategies, liaising with Foundation staff, ensuring the financial stewardship of programmatic budgets, and creating annual reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Bonner Scholars Program Development & Delivery

  • Directs the University’s Bonner Scholars program; ensures Bonner network best practices are implemented and Foundation expectations are met. Includes the support and guidance of work responsibilities of Student Engagement Team members who are also responsible for the delivery of the Bonner Scholars Program.

  • Leads communications with Bonner Foundation staff for the purpose of sharing educational resources, participating learning communities, strengthening network collaboration, and supporting the implementation of the Bonner Scholars Program.

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates Bonner Scholars Program structure, resources and supports, ensuring alignment with Bonner Center for Civic Engagement’s goals, inclusive of high-impact internship placements and educational programs that seek to enhance community-identified outcomes and foster transformative learning experiences.

  • Oversees, creates, implements, and delivers innovative, high-impact educational programming and civic engagement curricula for students who participate in the Bonner Scholars Program, supporting their learning, growth and development. Involves financial stewardship, resource management, and programmatic alignment with the CCE’s learning outcomes. Inclusive of, but not limited to, the development of program-wide reflective practices and the oversight of educational capstones (e.g., academic integration, first and senior year narratives).

  • Ensures and supports the utilization of inclusive facilitation and pedagogical strategies to create collaborative learning environments that incorporate diverse perspectives.

  • Oversees, initiates and provides high-quality advising of students in the Bonner Scholars Program through the creation of resource guides, offering one-to-one guidance, and offering professional development trainings to ensure meaningful and impactful participation in long-term, community based, civic engagement experiences for students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Recruits, supervises and manages the Bonner Scholar Program student leadership team, consisting of students who take lead roles in educational programming, full participation, and retention of peers in student engagement experiences. Includes hiring, training, goal development, and resolving work-related challenges.

  • Ensures and supports students in the development of their agency and program leadership through student-led programming. Includes cohort meetings, community building experiences, annual cornerstones, and conference participation.

  • Ensures the delivery of timely and high-quality programmatic communications

  • Provides relevant programmatic support for academic-year service requirements for select cohorts in the Bonner Scholars Program.

  • Provides needed input into the CCE’s approach to developing, implementing, and sustaining strategic off-campus relationships in response to campus and community-identified needs.

  • Collaborates with members of the Community Relationships Team to develop strategies and provide guidance to members of the Student Engagement Team supporting students at select community organizations.
