What is the Momentum Institute?
The Momentum Institute is a semester-long program designed to empower students to tackle issues like food insecurity, housing challenges, and other critical basic needs affecting their peers. Through a mix of interactive workshops, mentorship, and hands-on projects, you’ll develop the skills and strategies to drive meaningful change.
It is a free student-centered professional development program, where a select group of students are trained to help fight college student food and basic needs insecurity. Basic needs insecurity is one of the leading reasons why 1 in 3 students who start college do not finish. We want to change that by training students:
to enroll other college students in SNAP (formerly known as food stamps),
to educate their campus community about the issue college affordability and student debt,
to advocate for campus and government policies that make college more affordable and accessible.
Applicants do not need any prior experience. We are looking for energetic students committed to working to make higher education truly accessible. Fellows with past experience leading clubs on campus are particularly encouraged to apply, as well as students with an interest in advocacy and policy work.
The Momentum Institute consists of a ten week program beginning in September 2024, which includes weekly training sessions and brief assignments. Time commitment for the program is 1 to 5 hours per week.
This program is entirely remote (over Zoom) and free of charge thanks to the generosity of our funders. Successful completion of this program will give you access to a dynamic community dedicated to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for students everywhere.
