Now Accepting Applications: Bonner Foundation 2025 National Summer Internship

The Bonner Foundation is pleased to announce the application for the 2025 National Summer Internship.

All Bonner Leaders and Scholars are eligible to apply. Rising juniors and seniors, current 2025 seniors, and even former National Bonner Foundation Interns are encouraged to apply.

As a National Intern, students would work in the Princeton, NJ office and engage with programs across the network. As a professional development experience, National Interns participate in ongoing training and professional mentoring from Bonner Foundation staff. Interns will be immersed in planning and implementing the 2025 Bonner Summer Leadership Institute, the network’s national conference held at the University of Richmond from June 15 - 18. Additionally, National Interns will be involved in specific projects that support Bonner Foundation and Network priorities and key initiatives. This may include communications projects such as writing and publishing profiles, alumni engagement, and resources to support career connections, deepening student leadership, and community engaged learning. As Foundation initiatives evolve throughout the spring, intern projects may shift or be added to the portfolio this summer.

This eight-week paid internship placement is located at the Bonner Foundation headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey. Tentative dates for the position run from May 26 until July 19. This is a paid internship opportunity that includes a compensation package of $5,000. In addition, the Foundation will provide a housing stipend for interns that covers the cost of arranged housing for all National Interns at The College of New Jersey, a nearby campus. If the student is a Bonner Scholar, their summer of service funding will help cover the housing cost. If the student is a Bonner Leader, the Foundation will cover the full housing cost.

The first few weeks of the internship will be dedicated to event preparation, facilitation, and follow-up related to the 2025 Summer Leadership Institute at the University of Richmond from June 15 - 18. This may include communication with speakers and presenters, designing and facilitating workshops and special activities, assisting with logistical arrangements, and more. During the remaining four weeks of the summer, interns will be matched with Foundation staff to work on specific projects.

Qualifications

We suggest applicants address these and other qualifications in your application materials.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Program development including research and organization of resource materials;

  • Strong organizational and time management skills;

  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team-based work environments;

  • Interest/experience with community building and event management;

  • Interest in civic and community engagement and higher education more broadly; and,

  • Computer proficiency and willingness to learn other web-based tools (i.e., Notion, Google Suites);

  • Graphic design proficiency or experience with Apple Mac softwares (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, etc) or Canva.

We ask that you submit the following materials through our Summer 2024 Internship Application form linked above —

  • Application Form which includes two short answer questions: a) Tell us about an academic course or assignment that has connected with your Bonner Program experience. How are you applying your studies within your service work or linking the two?, and b) Share some insights that you have learned from your experience as a Bonner.

  • Resume (1-2 page): Be certain to include your email, phone number, Bonner and other professional experience, and relevant coursework. Also, be sure to sign up for LinkedIn and add your resume there as well. Upload your Resume as a PDF file into the Google Form.

  • Cover Letter (1-2 pages):  First, tell us more about who you are and share a few highlights of your Bonner experience. Then, introduce your interests, share the reasons for applying for this internship, and describe your relevant experiences and qualifications. Finally, share how you expect interning at the Bonner Foundation will contribute to your professional and personal goals. Upload your Cover Letter as a PDF file using the Google Form.

  • Recommendation Form (1 page): Your recommender should be your Bonner Director, Coordinator, or another staff person that can speak to your experience as a Bonner student. Please submit your recommender's name, email, and title as part if your application submission. Once submitted, you will receive a link to send to your recommender to fill out the form recommend regarding your qualifications for the internship position.

Due Date

To apply for the internship, complete the Application Form (including uploading your resume and cover letter) by Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Interviews are tentatively set to be held the end of February and early March final decisions will be announced towards the end of March.
