Nyrobi Whitfield ’26 has found purpose through hands-on learning beyond the classroom with Oberlin’s Center for Engaged Liberal Arts (CELA). Through early research in aquatic science and later marine ecology work, Whitfield has turned coursework into tangible climate and environmental insights. Service as a lifeguard and swim instructor, along with sustainability leadership on campus, has deepened Whitfield’s commitment to community engagement. After graduation, Whitfield plans to pursue a PhD in marine ecology and continue building a career in climate change research.

Bonner Scholar Cami Myers Awarded AICUP Commonwealth Good Citizen Scholarship

Waynesburg University senior and Bonner Scholar Cami Myers has been named a recipient of the 2026–27 Commonwealth Good Citizen Scholarship from AICUP, honoring students for academic achievement, leadership, and service. A forensic science major with minors in biology and chemistry, Myers has built a strong record of community engagement through her involvement with the Gallitzin Fire Company and her leadership on campus. She serves as a Bonner Office intern and orientation leader, helping coordinate service opportunities and mentor peers. The $2,300 scholarship will be applied to her student account for the 2026–27 academic year as she prepares for a career as an arson and explosion investigator.

Waynesburg Launches Center for Corporate Social Responsibility

Chevron and Waynesburg University announced today the launch of the Chevron Center for Corporate Social Responsibility at Waynesburg University, a first-of-its-kind center in the region. The center was made possible through a $250,000 commitment from Chevron.

During a press event hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, representatives from Chevron and Waynesburg University shared their excitement about the partnership and provided an overview of the center’s programming.

The center will seek to build a network of professionals in the region, encompassing all of southwestern Pennsylvania, and will be dedicated to sharing best practices in corporate social responsibility (CSR) work. As a membership organization, valuable resources will be shared with members to build strong and more valuable CSR programs.
